RingCentral, Inc.

United States · NYSE: RNG ·Market cap:

RingCentral sells cloud-based phone and messaging services that let businesses run calls, texts, and video meetings over the internet instead of old-fashioned phone lines.

RingCentral is a cloud communications company. It takes the phone system that used to live in a closet — the PBX with all its wires — and moves it onto the internet, so a business can make and take calls from a desk phone, a laptop, or a mobile app. Customers pay a subscription per user, per month, and that recurring fee is the heart of the business.

The core product is cloud phone service for businesses, sold under the RingCentral brand. On top of that it sells video meetings, team messaging, and contact-center software for companies that handle lots of customer calls. It also has a big partnership with Avaya, where RingCentral's cloud platform powers Avaya's own cloud phone offering. Customers choose it because they can add or remove seats in minutes, work from anywhere, and avoid buying and maintaining hardware. The honest catch is that this is a crowded, price-pressured market. Microsoft bundles Teams calling into its software, Zoom pushes hard into phone, and Cisco sells Webex. RingCentral has grown revenue steadily but has struggled to turn that growth into real profit, running losses for years. Its 2024 revenue was roughly $2.4 billion, up about 9% from 2023 — solid, but slower than its earlier hyper-growth years, which is why investors watch its path to profitability so closely.

RingCentral has been working to fix that. It has cut costs, pushed toward positive cash flow, and leaned on partnerships and AI features like call summaries to stay relevant. The bet is simple: recurring subscriptions from millions of business users are valuable if you can stop burning cash to win them.
