What Is the Nasdaq-100?

The Nasdaq-100 is an index of the 100 largest companies listed on the Nasdaq, leaving out banks and other financial companies. It is packed with big tech names.

Who is in it

Companies like Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Amazon and Alphabet make up a big share of it. It also includes large non-tech names in areas like drinks, retail and healthcare.

How people invest in it

Through ETFs that copy it. The best known is the Invesco QQQ Trust, often just called QQQ.

Nasdaq-100 vs S&P 500

The S&P 500 spreads across all industries, including banks and energy. The Nasdaq-100 is more concentrated in tech. That has helped it grow faster in many recent years, but it also falls harder in tech sell-offs.
