Stellantis builds and sells cars and trucks under many famous brand names like Jeep, Ram, Peugeot, and Fiat.
Stellantis is one of the world's biggest carmakers, and it's really a bundle of many brands under one roof. It sells vehicles through three main regional buckets: North America (about half of revenue, home to Jeep, Ram, Dodge, and Chrysler), Europe (roughly a third, led by Peugeot, Fiat, Opel, and Citroën), and a smaller "third engine" of South America, the Middle East, and Asia. The company makes money by building cars and trucks at factories and selling them to dealerships, which then sell to ordinary people and businesses. It also earns money from financing loans for car buyers and from selling parts and service.
Think of it as a giant mall of car brands — one owner collecting rent from very different shoppers. A rugged Jeep buyer, a French family looking at a Peugeot, and a Brazilian small-car shopper all pay the same parent company, but they'd never think of themselves as buying from the same place.
The big story right now is electric vehicles and cost-cutting. Stellantis formed in 2021 when Fiat Chrysler and France's PSA Group merged, and it's since poured billions into EV and hybrid platforms while trying to trim expenses — it has been cutting North American production and inventory after sales slipped. The company pays a large dividend to shareholders, and in 2024 it announced a big share buyback worth billions of euros, returning cash rather than only reinvesting it. Its challenges are real: rising competition from Chinese EV makers, tariffs, and the tricky job of making many brands feel distinct while sharing parts underneath.
