Southern Cable Group Berhad makes and sells electrical cables and wires to power companies, builders, and factories.
Southern Cable Group Berhad is a Malaysian cable maker. It mainly makes power cables — the thick wires that carry electricity from substations to homes, shops, and factories. Around two-thirds of its revenue comes from selling to utility companies and contractors working on big infrastructure jobs: national power grid upgrades, data centres, factories, and construction sites. The rest comes from selling smaller wires and cables to distributors and retailers.
Think of it as the plumbing for electricity — if the pipes are cables, Southern Cable is one of the companies making the pipes that keep the lights on.
Its customers are Tenaga Nasional (the national electricity company), engineering contractors, and hardware shops. They choose it because Malaysia's grid is being rebuilt and expanded, and locally made cables are cheaper and easier to get than imports. The company listed on Bursa Malaysia's ACE Market in 2020 and later moved to the Main Market. It has been growing fast: revenue jumped sharply in recent years as data centre construction and grid replacement work ramped up. It plans to expand into aluminium and higher-voltage cables and is building new capacity. With the cash it earns, it funds this expansion and has started paying small dividends to shareholders.
