Roundhill Space & Technology ETF

United States ·Market cap:

It is an exchange-traded fund that holds a basket of companies tied to space exploration and technology.

This is not a normal company. MARS is an exchange-traded fund, which is a basket of stocks you can buy and sell like a single share. It trades on Cboe US under the name Roundhill Space & Technology ETF. When you buy a share, you are not buying one business—you are buying a small slice of dozens of companies at once, all connected to space and technology. The fund makes money for its manager, Roundhill, by charging a small yearly fee based on the money invested, not by selling products to customers.

Think of it as a pre-built sandwich rather than shopping for each ingredient yourself. The fund mostly holds companies in two broad buckets. One bucket is space—rocket builders, satellite makers, and firms that provide launch and communications services, names like Rocket Lab and AST SpaceMobile. The other bucket is technology that supports or benefits from space, such as satellite connectivity, Earth imaging, and advanced hardware. It also holds some big aerospace and defense names. The mix leans heavily toward smaller, fast-growing companies, so the fund tends to swing up and down more than a plain index fund.

The fund is small, with a market value of roughly $580 million, and it charges a fee of about 0.75% a year. That is higher than a basic S&P 500 fund, because specialized themes cost more to run and the companies inside are riskier. Investors who buy it are betting that space and related tech will grow fast over the next decade, and they accept bigger price swings for that chance. It is a simple way to own the space theme without picking individual winners and losers.
