LVMH sells luxury goods like designer handbags, champagne, and jewelry to wealthy customers around the world.
LVMH is the world's biggest luxury goods company. It owns dozens of famous brands that sell things people buy to feel special, show status, or celebrate important moments. The company makes money by selling high-end products at premium prices to wealthy shoppers, aspirational buyers, and tourists. Think of it as a giant collection of the most prestigious names in fashion, drinks, and jewelry, all under one roof.
The business splits into five main parts. Fashion and leather goods bring in the most money, around half of total revenue, led by Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior. These brands sell handbags, clothes, and shoes that can cost thousands of dollars. Wines and spirits make up about 15 percent of sales, including champagne brands like Moët & Chandon and cognac like Hennessy. Perfumes and cosmetics contribute roughly 12 percent, with brands like Sephora and Fenty Beauty. Watches and jewelry add another 12 percent, featuring Tiffany & Co. and Bulgari. Selective retailing, which includes Sephora stores and duty-free shops, makes up the rest.
What makes LVMH special is its pricing power. Customers pay premium prices because the brands signal wealth, taste, and exclusivity. The company reinvests heavily in marketing, new stores, and buying other brands. In recent years, LVMH acquired Tiffany & Co. for about $16 billion and continued expanding in Asia, especially China, where luxury demand has grown fast. The company also pays dividends and occasionally buys back shares. LVMH was built by Bernard Arnault starting in the 1980s through a series of bold acquisitions. Today, Arnault and his family remain the largest shareholders, and the company is headquartered in Paris.
