Chagee Holdings Limited

China · NASDAQ: CHA ·Market cap:

Chagee sells freshly brewed milk tea and fruit tea drinks through its own stores, mostly in China.

Chagee is a tea shop chain. It sells freshly made milk tea and fruit tea drinks, and people buy them the way Americans buy coffee at Starbucks: a small daily treat, ordered at a counter or through an app, picked up and sipped on the go. Most of its stores are in China, where the brand built a following by mixing tea with fresh milk and real fruit rather than cheap powders.

The company runs most of its shops itself rather than selling them as franchises, which means it controls the look of the stores and the quality of the drinks, but it also pays the rent and staff bills. Customers choose Chagee over cheaper rivals partly because it positions itself as a premium cup — nicer ingredients, nicer stores, a bit more expensive. That premium pitch made it one of China's most talked-about tea brands and helped it grow quickly. Chagee's big bet is expansion outside China, especially into Southeast Asia, where it has been opening stores in countries like Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. Those markets have hot weather, lots of young people, and a growing taste for milk tea, which makes them a natural fit. The risk is that tea is a crowded, fashion-driven business: rivals copy drinks fast, tastes shift, and a brand that feels fresh today can feel stale in a year. Chagee has to keep opening stores and keep its menu interesting to stay ahead.

The company listed its shares on NASDAQ in 2025, which gave it public money to fund that expansion and raised its profile with investors outside China. That listing also put it under closer scrutiny: its sales growth, store openings, and profit margins are now watched every quarter. The simple version is that Chagee is a Chinese tea chain trying to become a global one, selling small cups of tea at scale and using the money to open more doors.
