Dutch Bros Inc.

United States · NYSE: BROS ·Market cap:

Dutch Bros sells coffee, energy drinks, and other drinks through drive-thru stands.

Dutch Bros is a drive-thru drink company. It runs small stands where customers pull up in their cars and grab coffee, energy drinks, smoothies, and shakes. The company makes money two ways: company-owned stands (the vast majority of its locations) and royalties plus fees from franchised stands. Think of it as a coffee shop built for people who never want to leave their car. Customers choose it for speed, friendly "broistas," and a huge menu of sweet, customizable drinks — not just plain coffee. Its bestsellers are blended energy drinks and flavored lattes, which pull in a younger crowd than traditional coffee chains.

The business is growing fast. It ended 2024 with over 1,000 stands and reported roughly $1.3 billion in annual revenue, up about 30% from the year before. Same-stand sales, which measure how much existing locations grow, have been positive on strong traffic. Most new stands are company-owned, so Dutch Bros spends heavily on opening new locations rather than paying dividends. That reinvestment is the main use of its cash. It also recently rolled out mobile ordering and expanded its food menu, small moves that help each stand earn more per visit. The company went public in 2021, but the founding family still holds a big stake and a special class of shares that keeps control in their hands.

That ownership wrinkle matters. Dutch Bros has a dual-class share structure, meaning public shareholders get less voting power than insiders. It is also expanding into new states and testing newer markets, which means upfront costs eat into near-term profit. The bet is simple: if each new stand eventually earns good money, the company can keep funding growth from its own cash flow and need less outside money over time. For now, investors are paying for growth, not dividends or buybacks — Dutch Bros is still in build mode.
